PROJECT OVERVIEW

Leventhorpe Court was a significant walkway resurfacing project awarded to Sussex Asphalte by one of our long standing clients. With 375 linear metres of asphalt walkway to be stripped and re-laid, we arranged the project to be carried out over two phases to ensure effective resourcing and completion of the East and North blocks of the building. Working closely alongside the scaffolders and railing contractors, we fitted a GRP perimeter trim to the external edges and laid IKO Permaphalt asphalt with added granite to the walkways, factoring in falls where required. Solar Reflective Paint was neatly applied to the details keeping a natural asphalt finish on the walkway surfaces

PROJECT CHALLENGES

Due to the occupied nature of the building and the high level of foot traffic required to the walkway areas, works had to be meticulously planned and communicated to residents throughout to ensure that we kept disruption to a minimum and maintained access for residents. To achieve this, it was imperative that we developed a strong working relationship with the residents ensuring they remained informed at all times and undertaking works in unconventional sequences at times to facilitate the requirements.

The existing build-up proved difficult to strip due to the thickness which had incorporated falls towards the drainage outlets. Large solid asphalt pads were constructed to encapsulate the railing feet and ensure all penetrations were sufficiently weathered followed by solid asphalt collars to all stanchions. Our skilled operatives were required to include falls within the new asphalt covering to ensure the walkways drained effectively and eradicate any ponding water sitting on the walkways.
