PROJECT OVERVIEW

The stunning Edwardian cinema opened in 1911, the roof terrace to this iconic Worthing seafront landmark began to fail and become worn in appearance the asphalt was renewed and new paving to the terrace, creating a new watertight and stylish looking space to enjoy. The existing waterproof membrane had failed and therefore the project involved the stripping of the existing waterproofing as there was moisture beneath the vapour control layer, cracks around railing stanchions, open thin ends of asphalt showing exposed timber/structures. IKO permaphalt mastic asphalt, enertherm XPS plus insulation and Sahara porcelain paving on pedestal supports created a new clean look to a tired roof terrace. Once again Robert and his team who are a product of our apprenticeship scheme and has been qualified and worked for us for over 20 years, bought in the project on time and to the highest of standards

PROJECT CHALLENGES

As the terrace is above the cinema reception and is open to the public it was imperative not to compromise the below to any further water ingress/damage. Not only that but it is situated on Worthing seafront, on a very busy main stretch where a bus stop is directly outside and underneath is a café with outdoor seating, so our charge hand and operatives had to take the upmost care with regards to health and safety and the moving and laying of molten asphalt around the public.
